| "Drying Time"
So there I was out in the parking lot painting the scenery for "Playing our Song". This version of the acoustic panelling in the sound studio was accomplished by overpainting some really old stock flats, cutting a 2' square of vermiculite carpet-gluing the carpet scrap to a piece of plywood with a handle mounted in the center-dipping the carpet in dark grey (leftover scumbucket) paint and "stamping " out the tile pattern on the flats.
Sound ugly? Imagine what it looked like!
So there I am in the parking lot stamping out smelly flats and the juvenile lead for the next show jumps in his sports car with the lead chorus girl in the passengers seat and backs up......over the flats.
I scream and yell loudly enough to get the stage manager to poke her head out from the matinee. The Grand Prix driver apologizes and slinks off at a slower rate of speed. I wait till he is out of sight and begin to laugh. The stage manager begins to fear for my sanity until I explain:
"Well, tire marks through the wet paint didn't make 'em look any WORSE."
